Type species: Asteromellopsis insculpta H.E. Hess & E. Müll.

Notes: Asteromellopsis insculpta was described as the asexual state that occur in young ascomata of Dothidea insculpta. Luttrell (1951) reported a microconidial state in young stromata of Dothidea collecta (Eriksson 1981; Shoemaker and Hambleton 2005). Thambugala et al. (2014) collected a specimen of Dothidea insculpta from Italy but did not observe formation of an asexual state in the culture. Sutton (1980) suggested that Asteromellopsis could be the spermatial or microconidial state of Dothidella insculpta. Currently, Asteromellopsis is placed in Dothideales genera incertae sedis.
