Importance and distribution

Species of Uleodothis are epiphytic on surface of leaves. As epiphytes, they contribute to leaf litter decomposition and play an important role in recycling of nutrients in the ecosystem (Yao et al. 2019). Although there are 11 Uleodothis epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), several species have been transferred to other genera such as Achorella, Stigmochora and Tomasellia. Uleodothis comprises eight species known on Adenocalymna sp. (Bignoniaceae), Bignonia sp. (Bignoniaceae), Mikania ruiziana (Asteraceae), Paspalum conjugatum (Poaceae), Phoenix sp. (Arecaceae), Pteridium aquilinum var. caudatum (Dennstaedtiaceae), Tamarindus indica (Fabaceae) and Tinospora cordifolia (Menispermaceae) Uleodothis is distributed in Asia (India), North America (Caribbean (Puerto Rico), the United States) and South America (Brazil, Colombia, Guyana). Future studies must attempt to re-collect Uleodothis as DNA sequence data is lacking for the genus.
