Xenophacidiella

Xenophacidiella Crous, in Crous & Groenewald, Persoonia 26: 82 (2011).

Index Fungorum number: IF 560056; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07644, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic or pathogenic on leaf surface. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium comprising branched, septate, brown, verruculose hyphae. Conidiomata eustromatic, pycnidial, multilocular, with several ostioles, erumpent, grey-brown. Peridium comprising 2–3 layers of textura angularis. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells lining the inner cavity of conidioma, embedded in mucoid layer, subcylindrical, hyaline, smooth, proliferating inconspicuously percurrently at truncate apex. Conidia medium brown, verruculose, subcylindrical, apex obtusely rounded, base truncate, thin-walled, aseptate, straight to slightly curved, at times occurring in chains of two (adapted from Crous and Groenewald 2011).

Type species: Xenophacidiella pseudocatenata Crous

Notes: Xenophacidiella resembles Phacidiella in having disarticulating chains of conidia. Xenophacidiella is distinct in having eustromatic conidiomata, brown, verruculose, aseptate conidia while Phacidiella has acervular conidiomata, and hyaline, smooth, aseptate, subcylindrical conidia (Sutton 1980). Molecular markers available for Xenophacidiella are ITS, LSU and RPB2.
