(2011) confirmed the taxonomic placement of Xanthoriicola in Teratosphaeriaceae based on phylogenetic analyses. Xanthoriicola is morphologically and phylogenetically a well-defined genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Xanthoriicola are LSU and mtSSU.
