Lichenicolous. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Stromata, setae and hyphopodia absent. Conidiophores semi-macronematous, densely aggregated, mononematous, erect, branched, irregularly penicillate, short, smooth, brown. (2011) confirmed the taxonomic placement of Xanthoriicola in Teratosphaeriaceae based on phylogenetic analyses. Xanthoriicola is morphologically and phylogenetically a well-defined genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Xanthoriicola are LSU and mtSSU.
