Index Fungorum number: IF 807843; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07644, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Foliicolous or pathogenic on plant substrate. Sexual morph: Ascomata black, erumpent, globose, solitary or in clusters of up to three, with papillate apex and central ostiole; wall consisting of 2–3 layers of medium brown textura angularis. Asci obovoid to broadly ellipsoid, aparaphysate, fasciculate, sub sessile, bitunicate, 8-spored, straight to slightly incurved. Ascospores 3- to multiseriate, hyaline, obovoid with rounded ends, medianlyuniseptate, slightly constricted at the septum, straight to slightly curved, guttulate, thin-walled, widest in middle of apical cell; ascospores brown and verruculose at germination. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Quaedvlieg et al. 2014).

Type species: Teratosphaeriopsis pseudoafricana Quaedvl. & Crous

Notes: Teratosphaeriopsis morphologically resembles Teratosphaeria but is phylogenetically distinct. Teratosphaeriopsis is a distinct and well-defined genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Teratosphaeriopsis are ITS, LSU, Actin, BTUB, Calmodulin, RPB2 and TEF-1.
