Pseudoteratosphaeria

Pseudoteratosphaeria Quaedvl. & Crous, in Quaedvlieg et al., Persoonia 33: 29 (2014).

Index Fungorum number: IF 807824; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07031, 7 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 7 species with molecular data.

Foliicolous, plant pathogenic or saprobic. Sexual morph: Ascomata pseudothecial, epiphyllous, single, black, subepidermal, globose. Ostiole central, apical. Peridium comprising 2–3 layers of medium brown cells of textura angularis. Asci aparaphysate, fasciculate, bitunicate, sub sessile, obovoid to broadly ellipsoid, slightly incurved, 8-spored. Ascospores multiseriate, overlapping, hyaline, guttulate, thin-walled, straight, fusoid-ellipsoidal, ellipsoidal or obovoid with obtuse ends, medianly uniseptate, widest in the middle of the apical cell, constricted at the septum, tapering towards both ends, but more prominently towards the lower end. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Quaedvlieg et al. 2014).

Type species: Pseudoteratosphaeria perpendicularis (Crous & M.J. Wingf.) Quaedvl. & Crous

Notes: Pseudoteratosphaeria is morphologically similar to Teratosphaeria but phylogenetically distinct. Only the sexual morph of Pseudoteratosphaeria has been found. Pseudoteratosphaeria is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Pseudoteratosphaeria include LSU, SSU, ITS, Actin, BTUB, Calmodulin, RPB2 and TEF-1.
