Monticola Selbmann & Egidi, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 3: 128 (2019).

Associated with rock. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies growing slowly, greyish black, with sharp margin, greyish in obverse, raised centrally, flat near the periphery; reverse black. Hyphae thick-walled, branched, elongate, eventually disarticulating into separate cells. Conidiophores micronematous. Conidia thallic-arthric, liberating on force (adapted from Crous et al. 2019).

 

Type species: Monticola elongata Selbmann & Egidi

 

Notes: Monticola is characterised by thick-walled hyphae with thallic-arthric conidia. Phylogenetically, Monticola is a distinct genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Monticola includes LSU and ITS.
