Associated with rock. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies growing slowly, greyish black, with sharp margin, greyish in obverse, raised centrally, flat near the periphery; reverse black. Hyphae thick-walled, branched, elongate, eventually disarticulating into separate cells. Conidiophores micronematous. Conidia thallic-arthric, liberating reluctantly. Type species: Monticola elongata Selbmann & Egidi
Notes: Monticola was introduced by Selbmann and Egidi in Crous et al. (2019) with M. elongata as type species. Monticola is characterized by thick-walled hyphae with thallic-arthric conidia. Phylogenetically, Monticola is a distinct genus in Teratosphaeriaceae.
