Lapidomyces

Lapidomyces de Hoog & Stielow, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 3: 128 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 829405; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07015, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Colonies growing slowly, compact, black, hard, lobed with regular margin. Hyphae hyaline to pale brown, thick-walled, branched. (adapted from Egidi et al. 2014).

Type species: Lapidomyces hispanicus de Hoog & Stielow

Notes: Lapidomyces was introduced by de Hoog and Stielow in Egidi et al. (2014) with L. hispanicus as type species and validated by Crous et al. (2019). Lapidomyces is characterised by compact, black, hard colonies and hyaline to pale brown, thick-walled conidia. Lapidomyces is a rock-inhabiting hyphomycetous genus and lacks a definite morphological structure. Egidi et al. (2014) placed Lapidomyces in Teratosphaeriaceae based on DNA sequence data. Lapidomyces differs from other rock-inhabiting genera in Teratosphaeriaceae in having slightly more expanding colonies on PDA. This taxonomic placement was followed by Quaedvlieg et al. (2014) and Crous et al. (2019). Currently, Lapidomyces is a distinct and well-supported genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Lapidomyces are ITS, LSU, SSU, BTUB and RPB2.
