Hispidoconidioma
Hispidoconidioma Tsuneda & M.L. Davey, Botany 88(5): 473 (2010).
Index Fungorum number: IF 518303; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07011, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.
Colonies slow-growing, black when mature, three-layered, consisting of a pseudoparenchymatous central layer sandwiched between two hyphal layers. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Hyphae light to dark-brown, straight or moniliform, regularly septate. Conidiogenesis occurring in sporadic areas of the pseudoparenchymatous central layer. Endoconidia, unicellular, hyaline, subglobose to ellipsoid (adapted from Tsuneda et al. 2010).
Type species: Hispidoconidioma alpinum Tsuneda & M.L. Davey
Notes: Hispidoconidioma is characterised by slow-growing, black colonies, light to dark-brown, straight or moniliform hyphae, and unicellular, hyaline, subglobose to ellipsoid endoconidia. Hispidoconidioma is unique in having bristle-like hyphal layers at the surface of the conidioma. Seifert et al. (2011) treated Hispidoconidioma as a distinct genus in Teratosphaeriaceae based on morphology and phylogeny. Molecular markers available for Hispidoconidioma includes LSU and ITS.
