Importance and distribution
Elasticomyces species are rock species or acidophilic and are successful colonizers even in nutrient-poor and dry habitats because of restricted competition with other organisms (Gorbushina 2007). Elasticomyces comprises only one species known on Usneae antarcticae (Parmeliaceae) in Antarctica.
