Davisoniella

Davisoniella H.J. Swart, Trans. Br. mycol. Soc. 90(2): 289 (1988).

Index Fungorum number: IF 11065; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07005, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

Saprobic or pathogenic on leaves. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata in necrotic spots in living leaves, abaxial, single or a few clustered together, stromatic, subepidermal, lifting the epidermis at maturity. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic, percurrent, arising from the inner wall of the locules. Conidia oval, brown, verruculose, apex rounded, base truncate with a marginal frill (adapted from Swart 1988).

Type species: Davisoniella eucalypti H.J. Swart

Notes: Crous et al. (2006d) linked Davisoniella to its sexual morph in Mycosphaerella but this relationship is not confirmed with molecular data. Davisoniella is morphologically similar to Colletogloeopsis asexual morph found with species of Teratosphaeria (Crous and Wingfield 1997). Davisoniella has teratosphaeria-like sexual morphs but this relationship is unclear because no sequence data is available (Crous et al. 2019). Even though Davisoniella belongs to Teratosphaeriaceae, it is not clear whether it is a synonym of Teratosphaeria. Fresh collections with molecular data are needed confirm this synonymy.
