Neoasbolisia Abdollahz. & Crous, in Abdollahzadeh et al., Stud. Mycol. 95: 406 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 833168; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11066, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Sooty mould. Mycelium superficial or immersed, pale brown to brown, branched, consisting of smooth, thin-walled, septate hyphae, constricted at septa, with a mucilaginous outer wall layer. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Pycnidia superficial or immersed, mostly globose or pyriform, brown to dark brown, intercalary, meristogenous in development, pseudoparenchymatous, thin-walled. Type species: Neoasbolisia phylicae Abdollahz. & Crous

Notes: Neoasbolisia is characterised by superficial or immersed, mostly globose or pyriform pycnidia and hyaline, aseptate, oblong to ellipsoid conidia. Neoasbolisia morphologically resembles Asbolisia but the latter genus is illegitimate. Neoasbolisia is a distinct genus in Neoantennariellaceae. Molecular markers available for Neoasbolisia include ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF-1.
