Neoantennariella

Neoantennariella Abdollahz. & Crous, in Abdollahzadeh, Groenewald, Coetzee, Wingfield & Crous, Stud. Mycol. 95: 405 (2020).

Index Fungorum number: IF 833166; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11064, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Sooty mould. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium superficial or immersed, pale brown to brown, branched, consisting of smooth, thin-walled, septate hyphae, constricted at septa, with a mucilaginous outer wall layer. Pycnidia superficial or immersed, mostly globose or cylindrical, pale to dark brown, mostly intercalary, lateral or terminal on erect hyphal branches. Ostiole absent, or not well-developed, mostly releasing conidia by means of irregular rupture. Conidia hyaline, aseptate, ellipsoid to ovoid, with minute guttules, smooth and thin-walled (adapted from Abdollahzadeh et al. 2020).

Type species: Neoantennariella phylicae Abdollahz. & Crous

Notes: Neoantennariella is characterised by superficial or immersed, pale brown to brown mycelium, superficial or immersed pycnidia, and aseptate, ellipsoid to ovoid, hyaline conidia. Neoantennariella morphologically resembles Antennariella but differs in conidiomatal and conidium morphology. Neoantennariella is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and type genus of Neoantennariellaceae. Molecular markers available for Neoantennariella are LSU, ITS, TEF-1 and RPB2.
