Ragnhildiana
Ragnhildiana Solheim, Mycologia 23(5): 402 (1931)
Index Fungorum number: IF 9686; Facesoffungi number: FoF 08556, 8 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 6 species with molecular data.
Pathogenic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiophores tufted, emerging through the stomata or rupturing the epidermis or effused on an external mycelium, simple or monopodially branched, more or less geniculate, straight or flexuous, continuous or septate, arising from a loose to compact or tuberculate stroma, hyaline to dark-brown. Conidia catenulate, acrogenous at times appearing lateral due to further development of the conidiophores, cylindrical, continuous or several-septate, hyaline to dark-brown (Adapted from Solheim 1931).
Type species: Ragnhildiana agerati (F. Stevens) F. Stevens & Solheim
Notes: Ragnhildiana was introduced by Solheim (1931) with R. agerati as type species. Ragnhildiana was synonymized to Mycovellosiella by Muntanola (1960). Crous & Braun (2003) synonymized both Ragnhildiana and Mycovellosiella with Passalora. Later, the type species of Passalora, Passalora bacilligera was recollected and these three genera were found to be phylogenetically distinct. Hence, the name Ragnhildiana was resurrected. Ragnhildiana is characterized by integrated, terminal, mono- or polyblastic conidiogenous cells with solitary or catenate subhyaline to brown conidia. In the phylogenetic analysis of Videira et al. (2017), Ragnhildiana cluster as a distinct lineage in Mycosphaerellaceae.
