Importance of genus to ecosystem
Species of Jahniella are saprobic or plant pathogenic. As saprobes, they play a role in nutrient recycling in the ecosystem. As pathogen, they can cause disease on host plant.

Diversity of the genus
Jahniella comprises only one species known on Scrophularia nodosa (Scrophulariaceae) in Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia. The diversity of Jahniella is poorly studied. Numerous new taxa remain to be described.
