Species of Epicoleosporium are saprobic and help in nutrient recycling in the ecosystem.

Diversity of the genus

Epicoleosporium comprises one species isolated from uredinia of Coleosporium phellodendri (Coleosporiaceae), on leaves of Phellodendron amurense (Rutaceae) in South Korea. Comprehensive studies are likely to discover more species of Epicoleosporium.
