Importance of genus to ecosystem

Species of Dearnessia are plant pathogenic showing as leaf spots.

The industrial applications of Dearnessia has not been investigated.

Diversity of the genus

Dearnessia comprises only one species known on Apocynum androsaemifolium (Apocynaceae) in Canada. Dearnessia is still poorly studied. Many hosts and regions are still understudied for the genus. Extensive studies are needed for species discovery.
