Vermiconidia foris

Vermiconidia foris Egidi & Onofri, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 3: 132 (2019).

Index Fungorum number: IF 829436; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11123, Fig. 1

Description: see Egidi et al. (2014).

Material considered: see Egidi et al. (2014).

Fig. 1 Vermiconidia foris (CBS 136106 = CCFEE 5459, holotype, re-drawn from Fig. 10i–k in Egidi et al. 2014). a–c Septate, thick-walled cells showing meristematic growth. Scale bars = 10 μm.

Importance and distribution

Vermiconidia comprises four species known on rocks from Antarctica and Europe (Baleares Islands, Italy). Vermiconidia species can tolerate the harsh conditions prevalent on rock surfaces (Ruibal et al. 2009).
