Castanedospora G. Delgado & A.N. Mill., Cryptogamie Mycologie 39 (1): 118 (2018).
Index Fungorum number: IF 824583; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07191, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021), 1 species with molecular data.
Saprobic on host. Asexual morph: Hyphomycetous. Colonies with mycelium partly superficial, partly immersed, composed of branched, septate, pale brown to brown, smooth or finely verruculose hyphae. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, simple, cylindrical, smooth, brown, septate, without percurrent extensions. Conidiogenous cells monoblastic, integrated, terminal, cylindrical or doliiform, determinate, brown, apex truncate. Conidia long narrowly obclavate or sub cylindrical, attenuated toward the apex, straight or flexuous, multiseptate, pale brown to brown, smooth, apex rounded, basal cell conico-truncate. Sexual morph: Unknown (Adapted from Delgado et al. 2018).
Type species: Castanedospora pachyanthicola (R.F. Castañeda & W.B. Kendr.) G. Delgado & A.N. Mill. 2018
Notes: Castanedospora was introduced by Delgado and Miller (2018) with C. pachyanthicola as type species. Castanedospora is characterized by macronematous, mononematous conidiophores, monoblastic, integrated conidiogenous cells, obclavate or sub cylindrical conidia. Delgado and Miller (2018) expanded the concept of Extremaceae to include species with monoblastic, determinate conidiogenesis and simple, multiseptate conidia and accommodated Castanedospora based on morphology and phylogeny. Hence, Castanedospora is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and well-supported genus in Extremaceae.
