Ramopenidiella

Ramopenidiella Crous & R.G. Shivas, in Crous et al., Persoonia 32: 207 (2014).

Index Fungorum number: IF 808899; Facesoffungi number: FoF 07034, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Saprobic on leaf. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Mycelium consisting of branched, septate, smooth, pale brown hyphae. Conidiophores dimorphic. Microconidiophores erect, brown, smooth, subcylindrical, reduced to conidiogenous cells. Macroconidiophores erect, brown, smooth, thick-walled, flexuous, unbranched, subcylindrical, septate, base arising from hyphae, lacking rhizoids. Conidiogenous cells integrated, terminal, brown, smooth, subcylindrical, containing several truncate, apical loci that are subdenticulate and give rise to several ramoconidia. Primary ramoconidia brown, smooth, fusoid-ellipsoid, aseptate, constricted at base. Secondary ramoconidia pale brown, smooth, fusoid-ellipsoid, aseptate. Intercalary and terminal conidia pale brown, smooth, fusoid, ellipsoid, aseptate, hila somewhat thickened and darkened (adapted from Crous et al. 2014).

Type species: Ramopenidiella cycadicola Crous & R.G. Shivas

Notes: Ramopenidiella differs from Penidiella in that the first whorl of primary ramoconidia look like conidiophore branches and darker compared to other conidia but are actually ramoconidia though not primary ramoconidia. They are generally constricted at the base and differs in morphological characters from secondary ramoconidia. Ramopenidiella is a distinct genus in Teratosphaeriaceae. Molecular markers available for Ramopenidiella are ITS, LSU and TEF-1.
