Importance and distribution

Sardiniella produces secondary metabolites namely R-(−)-mellein and (3R,4R)-and (3R,4S)-4-hydroxy melleins. R-(−)-mellein is phytotoxic, antifungal and zootoxic (Cimmino et al. 2018). Sardiniella comprises two species known on Celtis australis (Cannabaceae) in Europe (Italy).
