Saprobic on host. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiomata pycnidial, globose to subglobose, covered in short hyphae, superficial, immersed or semi-immersed, developing very long necks, aggregated in clusters; wall of 3–6 layers of brown textura angularis. Paraphyses intermingled among conidiogenous cells, hyaline, smooth, flexuous, aseptate, rarely branched, with obtuse apices. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells hyaline, phialidic, cylindrical to ampuliform, proliferating at the same level to form periclinical thickenings, rarely with percurrently proliferating. Conidia honey colored to black-brown, 0-1 (–3)-septate, smooth, hilum truncate, moderately thick-walled, straight to slightly irregularly curved, variable in shape (adapted from Yang et al. 2016).

Notes: Oblongocollomyces is characterised by globose to subglobose conidiomata, hyaline, holoblastic, cylindrical to ampuliform conidiogenous cells, honey colored to black-brown, 0–1(–3)-septate conidia. Oblongocollomyces can be differentiated from Sphaeropsis s. str.in having very long conidiomatal necks and conidia that can be up to 3-septate. Oblongocollomyces differs from other genera in Botryosphaeriaceae in its typical conidia with obtuse apices and truncate bases (Slippers et al. 2014). Oblongocollomyces is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct genus in Botryosphaeriaceae. Molecular data available for Oblongocollomyces in GenBank are ITS, LSU, SSU and RPB2.
