Importance and role
Importance of genus to ecosystem
Species of Endomelanconiopsis are saprobic and helps in decomposition of organic matter in the ecosystem. Some species are endophytes found from healthy plants (Enith et al. 2017)
Industrial relevance and applications
The industrial use of Endomelanconiopsis has not been investigated.
Quarantine significance
No disease has been reported from Endomelanconiopsis.
Biochemical importance of the genus, chemical diversity or applications
Sun et al. (2016a) reported the secondary metabolite endomeketals A–B from E. endophytica derived from Ficus hirta (Moraceae). Sun et al. (2016b) reported xyloketals from the endophytic fungus Endomelanconiopsis endophytica isolated from the Chinese folk medicine Ficus hirta (Moraceae).
Diversity of the genus
Endomelanconiopsis comprises three species known on Carapa guianensis (Meliaceae), Freycinetia sp. (Pandanaceae), Heisteria concinna (Olacaceae) and Theobroma cacao (Malvaceae). Endomelanconiopsis is reported from Brazil, Panama and Thailand. Future studies are likely to discover more species of Endomelanconiopsis.
