Importance and distribution

There are 52 Echidnodes epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Asterinella, Cirsosia, Echidnodella, Lembosia, Lembosina, Morenoina and Prillieuxina. Echidnodes comprises 29 species known on a wide range of plants such as Acokanthera venenata (Apocynaceae), Carissa sp. (Apocynaceae), Dryopteris inaequalis (Dryopteridaceae), Clidemia hirta (Melastomataceae), Eugenia monticola (Myrtaceae), Palicourea sp. (Rubiaceae), Tillandsia utriculata (Bromeliaceae), Vriesea glutinosa (Bromeliaceae) and Crypteronia laxa (Crypteroniaceae). Echidnodes is reported from Asia (Malaysia, Philippines), Central America (Belize), Europe (Ireland), North America (Caribbean (Dominican Republic), The United States), South Africa and South America (Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela).
