Importance and distribution
There are 31 Melomastia epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but several species have been transferred to Lophiostoma and Zignoella. Melomastia comprises 24 species known on a wide range of plants such as Aquilegia kareliniana (Ranunculaceae), Calamus (Acoraceae), Calligonum junceum (Polygonaceae), Clematis sikkimensis (Ranunculaceae), Ephedra (Ephedraceae), Haloxylon aphyllum (Amaranthaceae), Malus turkmenorum (Rosaceae), Salix martiana (Salicaceae), Sophora macrocarpa (Fabaceae), and Sorghum vulgare (Poaceae). Melomastia is reported from Africa (French Equatorial Africa), Central Asia (Iran, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Turkmenistan, Philippines), Europe (Italy) and South America (Brazil, Chile).
