Andamanomyces

Andamanomyces Hosag., in Hosagoudar et al., J. Threatened Taxa 6(2): 5449 (2014).

 Index Fungorum number: IF 807674; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11872, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), no molecular data available.

     Foliicolous, ectophytic on leaves. Sexual morph: Mycelium ectophytic, brown, septate, branched, appressoriate. Appressoria solitary but mostly in couplets, unicellular, lumen between both the appressoria is continuous or separated by cell wall of the mycelial cells. Thyriothecia oval, ellipsoidal with central vertical suture formed by splitting. Asci globose, 8–spored, bitunicate. Ascospores brown, conglobate, oblong, uniseptate, constricted at the septum. Asexual morph: Unknown (adapted from Hosagoudar et al. 2014).

 

Type species: Andamanomyces fragariae Hosag., S.P. Mathew & D. Babu

 

Notes: Andamanomyces is similar to Gangamyces but differs in having elliptical thyriothecia with central vertical suture. Fresh collections with DNA sequence data are needed to confirm the systematic position of Andamanomyces.
