Importance and distribution

There are 93 Asterostomella epithets in Index Fungorum (2022), but A. cristata, A. lepianthis, A. meliosmae, A. meliosmicola and A. veronicae have been transferred to Asterina. Asterostomella comprises 87 species known on wide range of hosts such as Capparis horrida (Capparaceae), Curatella americana (Dilleniaceae), Flacourtia sp. (Salicaceae), Grewia hirsuta (Malvaceae), Lawsonia inermis (Lythraceae), Litsea leefeana (Lauraceae), Santalum album (Santalaceae), Tetracera daemeliana (Dilleniaceae), Vismia cearensis (Guttiferae) and Wallenia laurifolia (Primulaceae). Asterostomella is reported from Asia (India, Myanmar, Philippines, Russia), Australia, North America (Caribbean (Dominican Republic)), South Africa and South America (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Venezuela).
