Pseudoacrospermum

Pseudoacrospermum Crous, in Crous et al., Fungal Systematics and Evolution 7: 322 (2021).

Index Fungorum number: IF 839303; Facesoffungi number: FoF 11851, 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2022), 1 species with molecular data.

Mycelium consisting of septate, branched, smooth, pale brown, hyphae. Sexual morph: Unknown. Asexual morph: Conidiophores solitary, erect, flexuous, subcylindrical, multiseptate, unbranched with basal T-cell, arising from superficial mycelium, thick-walled, pale olivaceous, smooth, lacking rhizoids, terminating in a slightly swollen conidiogenous cell. Conidiogenous cells integrated, terminal, subclavate, with numerous sympodial loci aggregated in a rachis, darkened, thickened, but not refractive, pimple-like, protruding. Conidia solitary, smooth, pale olivaceous to granular, subclavate, curved, apex obtuse, tapering to truncate hilum, darkened, thickened, and refractive, somewhat thick-walled, transversely septate (adapted from Crous et al. 2021).

Type species: Pseudoacrospermum goniomae Crous

Notes: Pseudoacrospermum is characterised by erect, flexuous, subcylindrical, multiseptate conidiophores, terminal, subclavate conidiogenous cells, solitary, smooth, pale olivaceous to granular conidia. Pseudoacrospermum is closely related to Acrospermum but no morphological comparison can be made as the latter exists only in its sexual state while Pseudoacrospermum is an asexual genus. Pseudoacrospermum is unique based on the multiseptate conidia. Pseudoacrospermum is morphologically and phylogenetically a distinct and well-defined genus in Acrospermaceae. Molecular markers available for Pseudoacrospermum include ITS, LSU, RPB2 and TEF-1.
